Monday, Stage 1: “Old Windmill” prologue TT, (8k)
Race start: 6:30 pm, East Gallatin Recreation Area, Manley Rd.
Description: The course will be a short and fast out and back. The race will start and finish on Manley Road adjacent to the East Gallatin Rec. area. Racers will leave at 30 second intervals starting a 6:30pm and proceed north on Manley, then turn left onto Mclhattan. The turnaround will be just before the intersection with Sypes Canyon Road. There is one left hand turn on this course in addition to the turnaround. Racers must yield to traffic!
Volunteers: We will need 5 volunteers for this stage: start person, finish person, holder, turnaround person, and a corner marshall. Remember, volunteering is worth 5 points in the stage race (same as a 3rd place finish!) and you can take advantage of this up to two times. If you despise TTing, this could be your day to volunteer!
Tuesday, Stage 2: “Chuck Norris Loop” road race, (28k)
Race start: 6:30 pm, Intersection of River Road and Norris Rd. (~1 mile west of Four Corners)
Description: The race will start at the intersection of Norris Rd. and River Rd. Racers will proceed west up the gradual climb on Norris Rd. and then turn right onto Churchill Rd. Please use caution on this high speed right turn. Watch for gravel! Racers will then head south on Churchill over some fun rolling hills. Racers will then make a right hand turn onto Cameron Bridges Rd. for some more rollers. The final right hand turn is onto River Road. Racers will head north up the false flat road towards a flat finish adjacent to the golf course. There is some limited parking on River Rd. on the south side of Norris Rd. Signup will be here. Otherwise park in Four Corners or ride from town (Durston, to Black Bull, to Monforton School Rd. is a nice route to mostly avoid Huffine). Do not park on Norris Rd. or on River Rd. north of Norris Rd. Please use caution when crossing Norris Rd. Do not cross the centerline at any time! Ride as far to the right as possible. There is a big shoulder on Norris Rd. Use it!
Volunteers: We will need 5 volunteers for this stage: 2 people for the start/finish and 3 corner marshalls. Remember, volunteering is worth 5 points in the stage race (same as a 3rd place finish!) and you can take advantage of this up to two times. If you don’t like the smell of a dairy farm, this could be your day to volunteer!
Wednesday, Stage 3: “Col du Langohr” mass start dirt road hill climb, (7k)
Race start: 6:30 pm, Intersection of Langohr Rd. and Hyalite Canyon Rd.
Description: The course will be a mass start hill climb on a dirt forest service road. The length is 7.2k with an average grade of ~7%. Several sections are considerably steeper. To get to the start, proceed up Hyalite Canyon until just past Langohr Campground. Just past the campground take the first right hand turn onto Langohr Rd. The race will start at the bridge a few hundred meters past the turn. Signup will be located here. There is some limited parking just past the bridge on the left. Ample parking exists at the Moser Cr. parking area (take the left hand turn just before you get to Langohr Campground, parking lot up the road and on the right). The finish will be located near the intersection with the History Rock Trail. The road conditions vary from smooth dirt road to bumpy doubletrack with some rocks near the top. Equipment choice will be interesting. Any type of bike is allowed. A mountain bike will work well, especially a hardtail. A cyclocross bike might be the ticket, but could leave you begging for easier gearing on some sections. Road bike? Possible for sure, but plan on running out of gears, spinning out on steep switch backs, and rattling your fillings especially near the top. And the ride back down will be no fun at all. Conversely if you ride your mountain bike you can descend back down via the History Rock singletrack which is sweet! All riders will start at the same time in a group. Faster riders line up near the front. Please stay to the right side of the road at all times. There is vehicle traffic on this road, so be alert, especially around blind corners.
Volunteers: We will need 4 volunteers for this stage: 2 start/finish persons, and 2 course marshalls (at potentially confusing intersections). Remember, volunteering is worth 5 points in the stage race (same as a 3rd place finish!) and you can take advantage of this up to two times. If you’re not a climber, this could be your day to volunteer!
Thursday, Stage 4: “Meadow Creek Mayhem” criterium
Race start: 6:30 pm, Meadow Creek Subdivision (off of Graf west of S 19th)
Description: The final stage will be a 6 corner criterium at Meadow Creek subdivision that has become a Tuesday night favorite this year. We will run up to three separate races depending on turnout. The B’s and women will race 30 min, the A’s 40 min, and juniors will race 4 laps. Following the race will be a BBQ and then overall awards.
Volunteers: We will need 5 volunteers for this stage: 2 start/finish people and 3 course marshalls. Remember, volunteering is worth 5 points in the stage race (same as a 3rd place finish!) and you can take advantage of this up to two times. If you prefer riding in a straight line for long periods of time, this could be your day to volunteer!
Thanks to John Curry for planning all these great stages, and to Lisa and John for all the organization of the WMSR.
