Presented in part by:

Thanks to Al Pendergrass for his website assistance and Tyghe Vallard for creation of this form!

Thank you for helping with the GVBC Colin Craig Memorial Series.  Please review the guidelines for the volunteer positions and the times when volunteers are needed before signing up below.  Also, several season long volunteer positions are available which will require a short time commitment regularly through the season.  These include a statistician, press release/copy writer, race equipment coordinator, and volunteer coordinator.  In addition to fulfilling volunteer requirements, these volunteers will have the $25 series fee waived.    Contact Jared (jwnelson97 @ yahoo.com) if interested.

Once you have signed up for a volunteer slot, it is your responsibility to show up or find someone else show up in your place.  Failure to do so may result in suspension from the CCMS.

The Coordinator is responsible for the details necessary for each ride in the series to take place.  This position requires a bit of organization and is open to anyone who participates in the series.  Series director(s) are willing to assist anyone who would like to perform this task, but may feel unsure of their skills.  Responsibilities include:

  1. Coordinate pick-up of race packet and traffic markers.  Discuss course with series director(s) to review marshalling, safety and other needs for specific course if necessary.
  2. Please arrive early (30+ minutes before start) in order to set-up signs and cones.  Be sure course is safe, clear of debris, etc. and is ready for action.
  3. Bring release waivers, sign-up sheet, and results sheet.
  4. Ensure each rider signs a waiver and is a GVBC member.
  5. Ensure all volunteers know and are comfortable with their post.
  6. Ensure safety of start area.
  7. Line up riders several minutes before starting and review racer safety and rules.
  8. Start on time!
  9. Make sure ride runs smoothly and refer to race packet in event of incident.
  10. Ensure finish is scored accurately.
  11. Pick-up course materials and traffic markers.
  12. Place signed waivers in race packet.
  13. Hand race packet and traffic markers off to next user.

To ensure safety, Marshals & Lead/Follow Car volunteers  should be familiar with these guidelines:

  1. Please arrive at least 20 minutes before scheduled start.
  2. Please remember the roads are NOT closed.
  3. When in doubt, choose the SAFEST option.
  4. Drivers are asked to drive with hazards flashing for the race duration while leading/following at a safe distance.
  5. Drivers must follow all traffic laws.
  6. Marshals are tasked to direct and alert riders; they do not have the legal authority to stop or direct traffic unless preventing an accident.
  7. Marshals will have access to high-visibility vests and brightly colored flags to signal riders of vehicle traffic.
  8. Marshals shall position themselves to be visible to riders and traffic, while being cognizant of their own safety.
  9. Marshals need to be diligent in their awareness of traffic, especially as riders are approaching.
  10. Marshalling is meant to be an active task; please do not take it lightly.
  11. Please remain as cordial and polite as possible in the event of a negative interaction with a passing motorist.
