2012 Montana Brevet Series
.
For those who might want to dip a toe into the Ultra-Distance pool, those who need some serious base miles for an upcoming race, tour, or charity ride, or those simply looking for a new way to push themselves beyond what they ever thought was possible, randonneuring is the sport for you!
.
Jason Karp of the GVBC is hosting three randonneuring events in 2012 including one “shorter” ride called a populaire and two brevets (pronounced bruh-vey): The 109 kilometer (68 miles) populaire will be held on July 28, starting and finishing in Bozeman. This route will use quiet and relatively flat roads in the Gallatin Valley and it will be a great way for cyclists to experience what randonneuring is all about. Finishers will receive a handsome Randonnuers USA Populaire pin. The second event will be a 200 kilometer brevet on August 18 also starting and finishing in Bozeman, using a route through Bridger Canyon, the Sheilds Valley, and Paradise Valley that was also used in 2009. The final event of the season on September 8 will be a 300 kilometer brevet planned to go over the famous “Going to the Sun Highway” in Glacier National Park.
.
Randonneuring is a cycling tradition that started in France and Italy over 100 years ago, but these are the first such rides to start in Montana. Come out and be a part of history! All the information regarding the rides can be found at: http://sites.google.com/site/montanarando/
